Bamboozle
Players invent a fake answer, then the room votes on which answer is real. How to set up a Bamboozle round.
Bamboozle is a bluffing party activity. For each prompt, everyone invents a convincing fake answer, then the whole room votes on a shuffled list of everyone's fakes plus the one real answer. You score by spotting the truth, and by fooling your friends into picking your fake. It's playful, social, and works brilliantly with surprising-but-true trivia.
How players experience it
Each round moves through three phases, and every screen moves together:
- Write. The prompt appears and each player types a believable fake answer, then locks it in. You can change your bluff until the writing time runs out. Nobody can see who wrote what. If your fake is too close to the real answer, or someone already submitted the same one, you'll be asked to try a different one.
- Vote. Everyone sees a shuffled list of all the fakes plus the real answer, with no names attached. Players pick the one they believe is real. You can't vote for your own bluff.
- Reveal. The truth is shown, along with who wrote each fake and who fell for it. Points are added, and a running scoreboard appears between rounds.
After the final round, a podium shows the standings.
Scoring works like this: you earn 500 points for voting for the real answer, and 250 points for every player your fake fools into voting for it. Points are banked onto the leaderboard.
Setting one up as a host
When you add a Bamboozle activity to your Roo, you author the content as a list of prompts:
- Each prompt is one round. For each, you write the question and its real answer. The real answer stays secret until that round's reveal.
- Surprising numbers and odd facts make the best bluffs. Think "A koala sleeps up to how many hours a day?" Use the "Surprise me" button to drop in a ready-made prompt from Tikroo's bank.
- Add or remove prompts to make the game longer or shorter.
You also set two timers:
- Writing time. How long players get to invent their fake each round.
- Voting time. How long the room gets to pick the answer they believe.
Tips
- Pick prompts with genuinely surprising answers. The best rounds are ones where the truth sounds as made-up as everyone's lies.
- Short, plausible answers fool the most people. Encourage players to keep their fakes boringly believable rather than silly.
- A handful of prompts is plenty for a lively round. Bamboozle shines as a quick, funny burst rather than a marathon.
