At Tikroo, accessible from https://tikroo.com, one of our main priorities is the privacy of our visitors. This Privacy Policy document contains types of information that is collected and recorded by Tikroo and how we use it.
If you have additional questions or require more information about our Privacy Policy, do not hesitate to contact us.
This Privacy Policy applies only to our online activities and is valid for visitors to our website with regards to the information that they shared and/or collect in Tikroo. This policy is not applicable to any information collected offline or via channels other than this website.
Consent
Where we rely on your consent (for example, for analytics), we ask for it explicitly through a consent banner before anything non-essential is loaded. Simply browsing or using Tikroo is never treated as consent. You can withdraw or change your consent at any time using the "Cookie & storage settings" controls at the bottom of this page. Withdrawing consent is as easy as giving it.
Data that is strictly necessary to provide the service you have asked for (for example, keeping you in a game you joined) is processed on the basis of providing you that service, not consent, and works regardless of your consent choice.
Information we collect
The personal information that you are asked to provide, and the reasons why you are asked to provide it, will be made clear to you at the point we ask you to provide your personal information.
If you contact us directly, we may receive additional information about you such as your name, email address, phone number, the contents of the message and/or attachments you may send us, and any other information you may choose to provide.
When you register for an Account, we may ask for your contact information, including items such as name, company name, address, email address, and telephone number.

Log Files
Tikroo follows a standard procedure of using log files. These files log visitors when they visit websites. All hosting companies do this and a part of hosting services' analytics. The information collected by log files include internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, Internet Service Provider (ISP), date and time stamp, referring/exit pages, and possibly the number of clicks. These are not linked to any information that is personally identifiable. The purpose of the information is for analyzing trends, administering the site, tracking users' movement on the website, and gathering demographic information.
Cookies and Data Stored in Your Browser
Tikroo stores small amounts of data in your browser using cookies and browser storage (known as "localStorage"). We separate this into two categories:
Strictly necessary (always on). This data is essential to provide the service you ask for and is exempt from consent requirements. It includes: your player identity and nickname for a game you join (so you stay in the game if your page reloads or your connection drops), your answers and progress during a live game, presenter and session settings, authentication/login session data, and the record of your own cookie-consent choice. This data lives in your browser, is not used to track you across other websites, and much of it expires automatically after the game ends.
Analytics (only with your consent). With your explicit permission, we use analytics (Google Tag Manager / Google Analytics) to understand how Tikroo is used so we can improve it. Analytics never loads unless you click "Accept all" on our consent banner. If you decline, or make no choice, no analytics cookies are set and no data is sent to Google.
Tikroo does not show third-party advertising and does not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or web beacons, and does not sell your personal information.
You can also clear or block cookies and site data entirely through your browser settings. Note that blocking all site data may prevent gameplay features (such as staying in a game after a page reload) from working.
Google Workspace and Google Classroom data
Tikroo offers an add-on for Google Classroom, and lets you sign in with a Google account. Both are optional. When you use them, you are asked to authorise specific Google permissions, and this section explains exactly what we do with what we receive.
What we access, and why:
- Your identity (
openid, email, profile) to know who you are, match you to your Tikroo account, and show your name to your teacher or your students. - Classroom add-on permissions (
classroom.addons.teacher,classroom.addons.student) to attach a Tikroo activity to the assignment you are writing, to know which student has opened that activity so their work is saved against the right person, and to write their score back to your Classroom gradebook when they finish.
To make grade write-back work after a student finishes, we store the Google account identifier and name/email of the teacher who attached the activity, an encrypted Google refresh token belonging to that teacher, and the Classroom course, assignment, attachment and submission identifiers involved. The refresh token is stored encrypted and is used for nothing except posting grades and reading the attachment you created.
Limited Use. Tikroo's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy , including the Limited Use requirements. Specifically, we do not use Google user data for advertising, we do not sell it, and we do not transfer it to third parties except as necessary to provide or improve the features you are using, to comply with the law, or as part of a merger or acquisition. We do not allow humans to read this data except with your explicit permission, where necessary for security purposes, to comply with the law, or where the data has been aggregated and anonymised. We do not use data obtained through Google Workspace APIs to develop, improve, or train generalised artificial intelligence or machine learning models.
Disconnecting. You can withdraw Tikroo's access at any time from your Google account permissions page, or by removing the add-on. Contact us and we will delete the stored tokens and associated Classroom identifiers.

GDPR Data Protection Rights

Students and children's information
Another part of our priority is adding protection for children while using the internet. We encourage parents and guardians to observe, participate in, and/or monitor and guide their online activity.
When a school uses Tikroo with students. Tikroo is designed to be used in classrooms, including with students under 13. Where a teacher, school or district uses Tikroo with their students — whether by running a live game or by setting work through the Tikroo add-on for Google Classroom — the school directs that use, and is responsible for providing any notice to, and obtaining any consent from, parents or guardians that applicable law requires. In that setting we process student information on the school's behalf and only to deliver the activity the teacher has set.
What a student's participation involves. Students do not need to create a Tikroo account to take part. A student joining a live game provides a nickname and their answers. A student opening an activity through Google Classroom is identified by their Classroom account, so that their work is saved against the right person and their teacher can return a grade. We collect no more than is needed to do that.
What we never do with student information. We do not use student personal information to serve advertising, to build advertising or behavioural profiles, or to train artificial intelligence or machine learning models. We do not sell student personal information, and we do not disclose it other than to the school that directed the activity, except where the law requires it.
Access and deletion. A school, parent or guardian can ask us to provide a copy of, correct, or delete a student's information by contacting us, or by asking the teacher or school administrator who set the activity to do so on their behalf.
Outside a school setting. Tikroo is not directed to children under 13 signing up on their own, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from a child under 13 who registers for an account outside a school deployment. If you think that your child provided this kind of information on our website, we strongly encourage you to contact us immediately and we will do our best efforts to promptly remove such information from our records.
