Someone draws. Everyone else guesses.

Start a board, share the link, and take turns drawing a secret word while the rest of the room shouts guesses in. Right answers score fastest-first, so it stays a race to the last second.

Why teams use this

Playing in ten seconds

Press start and the board is live. A join link and code appear straight away. Share them and people arrive while you pick up the pen.

Draw with anything

A finger on a phone works as well as a mouse. The drawing appears on every screen as it happens, stroke by stroke.

Fastest guess wins

Points go to whoever gets there first, so nobody sits back and waits for someone else to say it.

How it works

  1. Press start

No account, no form. You are hosting a fresh board immediately.

  2. Share the link

Send the join link or read out the code. People join from any phone or laptop.

  3. Draw and guess

One person gets the secret word and draws it. Everyone else types guesses until someone lands it.

About Scrawl

A drawing game the whole class can join

One person draws a secret word while everyone else types guesses. It takes about as long to explain as it does to start, which is why it survives the last ten minutes of a Friday. Players join from whatever they already have, a phone, a Chromebook, a shared tablet, with a link or a code. Nothing is installed and nobody makes an account.

Using it in a lesson, not just at the end of term

The word list is yours, so the game can carry the content instead of interrupting it. Vocabulary from a language unit, parts of a cell, the water cycle, characters from the class novel. Drawing a word forces a student to decide what the word actually means before they can represent it, which is a harder and more useful task than recalling a definition.

Keeping it fair when drawing ability varies

Points go to the fastest correct guess, so the room stays in it to the last second rather than switching off once someone is ahead. That also takes the weight off the artist: a rough sketch that lands quickly scores the same as a careful one. If a class is self-conscious about drawing, shorter rounds help more than easier words.

What you need in the room

A screen everyone can see for the board, and a device each for the players. Touch works as well as a mouse, so a phone is a perfectly good pen. If a student loses connection they can rejoin on the same link without losing the round.

Questions, answered

Do I need an account to play?
No. Press start and you are hosting straight away. This page stays free however often you use it. Scrawl runs on one of our paid activity types, so saving a board and drawing from your own word list needs an upgrade, not just an account.
How do people join?
They open the join link you share, or enter the short code at the join page, from any phone, tablet or laptop browser. Nothing to download.
Can I play on a phone?
Yes. Drawing works with a finger on a touchscreen and with a mouse or trackpad on a laptop, and guessing is just typing.
Where do the words come from?
Every round picks one from a ready-made list, so there is nothing to write before you start.
