Room's full / participant limits

What "This room is full" means, why sessions have a player cap, and what the host can do about it.

"This room is full" means the session has reached its player cap and can't admit anyone else right now. It isn't a bug. Every session has a maximum size, and this one just hit it.

What you'll see

A player who's turned away gets a plain "This room is full" card (or "This duel is full" for a two-person duel) in place of the name entry form. From there they can try a different PIN, or, for a duel, start a fresh one of their own. There's no error to puzzle over, the way forward is right there on the card.

If two people go for the last open seat at nearly the same moment, whoever loses that race sees the same "full" card the instant they try to join, even though the room didn't look full a second earlier.

Why sessions have a cap

Every session's player limit comes from the host's plan, and it's set the moment the session is created. Free, Basic and Pro allow progressively larger sessions, and Enterprise has no published ceiling. Exact numbers change from time to time, so the current figures live on the plans comparison table rather than being repeated here.

A duel is different. It's a fixed two-player format by design, one host and one opponent. That's not a plan limit and there's nothing to upgrade. It's just what a duel is.

Quick tools you can start without an account, like Brainstorm or Scrum Poker, run at a smaller fixed size too, since there's no signed-in plan to size the room by.

What the host can do

  • Remove someone who's no longer there. If a seat is being held by a participant who has dropped off, removing them from the participant list frees that seat for someone else.
  • Upgrade before you start, not mid-session. The player cap is locked in when the session is created. Moving to a higher plan raises the limit for the next session you start, not the one already running.
  • Split a very large audience. For an all-hands or a big lecture, running parallel sessions (or planning ahead on the right plan) avoids the cap altogether.

Avoiding it next time

Check your plan's session size on the plans page before a big event, and upgrade ahead of time if you're expecting more people than your current plan allows. If you're not sure how many will show up, size up rather than down. It's easier than turning people away at the door.
